Money Matters
As we begin the new year of 2012 it is a great opportunity to assess and either renew or change past patterns of our lives. One area that many do this evaluation is regarding their weight management. With programs such as Jenny Craig, Weight Watchers, and other diet programs as well as renewing gym memberships, this area can be handled effectively. But our financial and spiritual health is a whole different category. That is why beginning Sunday, January 15, at 7 PM we will begin a seven week seminar entitled, "Money Matters". The title has a dual meaning. First, "Money Matters" deals with the nitty-gritty of money management, but secondly money matters because how we handle money and view money can affect how we live our life.
Materialism and debt continued to be one of the major oppressive forces that keep people from living fully as sons and daughters of God. We are created in the image of God and are never closer to God than when meeting the real needs of people. "Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me" (Matthew 25:40). The aim of this seminar is to help us experience the joy of financial freedom and participate in the amazing abundance of generous living.
The course is based upon the book, Money Matters: Financial Freedom for All God's People, by Michael Slaughter. To be part of this seminar you can call the church at (856) 358-3232 or sign up at the church to receive your copy of the book and reserve your spot. There is no better way to begin this new year than in gaining God's perspective on this essential matter of life. Come and join us! Money Matters!
More Than Enough
"More Than Enough" is the title of our stewardship campaign for this year. For the next few weeks we will be exploring on Sunday mornings the privileges and responsibilities of caring for and using the resources that God has given us. On Sunday, January 29, we will be having a Consecration Service where we will have the opportunity to place before God our commitments for the coming year. This is an exciting time where we can not only reflect upon from where God has brought us but also to anticipate how God will use us and His church here at Olivet for His glory through His Son, Jesus Christ in 2012. These are weeks that will challenge and change us as we allow God to speak to us. Don't miss a Sunday of this exciting adventure.
"Real Women, Real Faith: Life-Changing Stories from the Bible for Women Today"
The ladies Bible Fellowship will be starting a new study. The study is entitled "Real Women, Real Faith; Life-Changing Stories from the Bible for Women Today". This is a six week DVD study with a new woman presenting a woman from the Bible each week. You will learn how God moved to the lives of these women of the Old Testament, and how the struggles they faced long ago are not unlike the struggles we face today.
"This fresh look at the women in the Bible helps you discover new insights and provides a powerful witness to God's gracious love that will leave you feeling challenged, encouraged, and deeply valued."
Join us beginning Tuesday, January 9, from 9:30 AM to 11 AM in the fireplace room at the church. If you're in need of a nursery, please contact Lynn Harris at olivetmethodist@aol.com. There is no book to purchase, just bring a Bible and join us! Invite a friend!!
